Hello, glorious saints. welcome to the abode of the knowledgeable. a place where freedom is birth through the knowledge of the finished work of christ. my name is Ojuola Oloruntobiloba, a teacher by calling and currently serving my fatherland via the NYSC program. welcome on board with me and my other members. thanks to our brother and leader Abiola Inioluwa for giving me this priviledge.
yes! i will be speaking on the topic ‘REDEMPTION’ though not a new word to be heard, and with the teaching anointing upon me, trust God to speak out his word through me in fullness.
From the greek concordance, redemption is a word laden with deep meaning is ‘parak’ which means ‘to tear loose’, ‘to rescue’. it also means ‘agorazo’ which means ‘to purchase’. also ‘lutron’ which means ‘a ransom’. so literarily, redemption means the payment of ransom of a particular item in exchange for another item. so as believers, redemption is the payment of a particular price over us so as to make an exchange for us into freedom. lets check scriptures
Eph1:7(kjv) %In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.
NB: i want us to note as believers that we are not trying to be redeemed, or we will be redeemed. no! it is we have redemption i.e we have been redeemed. through what? the forgiveness of our sins.
now, why redemption?
before i answer that, let me beg the question. why not redemption? cos as a matter of fact, nobody is free from sin without Christ. every body without christ is a sinner. mind you every human born into this world was/is a sinner. what is only needed to be a sinner is to be born into this world. through the line of adam. only one person throughout lifetime was not born through the lineage of adam. and that is jesus and that is why he can form the basis of our redemption. so redemption is expedient to humanity.
the world is like a dungeon in which humanity find herself. humanity has been smeared with the stain of sin. by one man, sin entered the whole world(1cor15:22) and through that sin, death entered the whole world. death here means ‘to cease to exist’ so the moment adam sinned, man ceased to exist before God. humanity was alienated from the supreme divinity.
someone might ask ‘but why cant God just decide another creation and destroy the corrupt earth?’ the answer is ‘God is not a man that will change his mind(num23:19). he has declared that man should be fruitful and multiply, he told man to replenish the earth and subdue it(gen1:22). with that statement, the fruitfulness of man can never be altered by anyone again. not even God cos he is omniscient. that is the more reason why the fruits coming out of adam had to be redeemed back to life.
back to our discussion, humanity died the moment adam sinned. if you check the meaning of the word ‘sin’ in that ephesian 1:7, sin there means ‘paraptoma’ meaning ‘a side slip’, ‘fall’ ‘a lapse or deviation’. so the moment adam slipped from his position, humanity at large slipped from the position. humanity found herself in a dungeon. a dungeon of hopelessness. there is always a subconsciousness in man that he is missing something devine. trust me, every tribe and religion knows and believes there is life after death. but no man! i mean no man has ever been able to give a positive assurance of what its gonna be. everyman knows he is going to face judgement on every of his actions on earth, but no man can affirm of his acquittance before the judgement throne.
this fear now embattles man into a frantic race. we saw great men who ran and ran so as to earn Gods favour even in their death doom state.
Job, a man who God himself acclaims to be righteous in his works became the worst sinner when the heart cry of humanity for a saviour dawn upon him. some people talks of his fears that he did want protection from God, that was why he kept sacrificing! not really that, he was seeking a right standing approval from God. you know what, he never found one. he even recounted his good deeds before God so as to earn a reputation. he later became a fool. check this out
job10:15 %If i be wicked, woe is me; and if i be righteous, yet will i not lift up my head. i am full of confusion; therefore, see thou mine affliction.
so from the passage above, you too judge, which side can one be? the wicked side in which is full of woe or the righteous side which is full of shame of no standing. thats the peak of confusion and foolishness humanity finds herself. Job later uttered a powerful statement
job9:33-35 %neither is there any man betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both. 34%let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me: 35%then would i speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.
alas! Job longed for a saviour! he needed redemption!
what shall we say of David too? he knew he had no hope after this life. he knew his only hope of praising God is only on this earth. he knew his abode. the grave! where silence and chain is the ultimate goal(psalm31:17), a place termed the abode of destruction(psalm88:11) i believe he would even wish not to die. he too at last longed for a saviour(psalm49:15)
what shall we say of solomon too, he basked in the euphoria of his multifaceted wisdom in his youthful days, he searched and researched everything around him, but in his quest for knowledge, after much of his years on earth, he became a fool! yes! a fool cos of what his life after death will be. he had no hope or glimpse of what his after life will be. he termed everything in this world vanity and the passing away of air. see this
Ecc9:10% for whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. he knew his final abode is the grave and he knew there was no wisdom therein, he yearned for a saviour!
he became foolish despite all his wisdom(ecc6:12).
heeeeey! believers in christ! all thanks be unto God! cos the least of us in the kingdom is greater than them all(matt11:11). do you know why? we forcefully take our inheritance by the force of our confession(vs12).
do you know how this was made possible? i mean you being greater than all the prophet? its because our starting point in this kingdom is the assurance of eternal life(john10:28-29). first he forgave all your sins through the use of his blood(eph1:7) thereby making you as clean as himself before God the father(john15:3) through the word of eternal life sent to us. this word was heard, seen, looked upon and handled by those that gave it to us and we are also handling him in reality. i mean jesus, the word of life.
so believers! even if you think you don’t have anything, you have the fullness of the assurance of eternal life. that is the work of his redemption. he bought us with his blood and ransomed us back to the father. for you to be with the father is to share a taste of his personality: eternal life.
all glory be to jesus forever more for his work of redemption for us. i believe you have been blessed. so stay blessed in the knowledge of God and of his Son Jesus christ. amen!
